MQA On Your iPhone? Possible Now Thanks To TIDAL & AudioQuest

MQA On Your iPhone? Possible Now Thanks To TIDAL & AudioQuest

MQA stands for “Master Quality Authenticated”. It’s essentially a way of packing high quality audio files into something small without losing any of the bits. It allows you to stream Hi-Res Audio over the internet and around your home without using gigabytes upon gigabytes of bandwidth.

The Hi-Res audio file is packed up, streamed to you and unpacked at your end so you can hear everything the artist intended.

For this to work, you need a source to get your MQA music from, and something that can handle it your side.

Source wise, TIDAL offers MQA music through TIDAL Masters (available at no extra cost to TIDAL HiFi subscribers). As for playback/decoding devices, there’s quite a lot of choice out there from brands such as Bluesound, Sony, NAD, Audiolab, Audioquest, Pioneer and more.

If you were an iPhone user, you were previously limited to only being able to enjoy MQA music at home. But now, thanks to a firmware update, you can play MQA through TIDAL Masters on your iPhone! Connect a AudioQuest DragonFly (Red or Black) and plug your headphones in and you’re good to go!
