Marantz Launches New Melody X (M-CR612) Music Streaming System

Founded in 1953, Marantz has a long and rich history of designing audiophile components embraced by music lovers and critical lovers around the world.

Their Melody series of products has evolved over the years, embracing new technologies with each incarnation, and has long been one of the best “just add speakers” systems on the market.

The new Melody X (M-CR612) is packed with features, making it a fantastic option for a compact HiFi system.

It can still spin discs with the built in CD Player, still features a FM radio and the latest DAB+ tuner. It has two optical digital inputs, allowing you to connect your TV to it, it’ll also turn on automatically and switch over to the correct optical input when you turn your TV on, making this a superb alternative to a soundbar if you’re looking to improve the sound of your TV.

You can connect your smart devices to it using Bluetooth or stream with Apple AirPlay 2.

Speaking of music streaming, there’s a lot of choice with the Melody X. It’s packed with options…

  • Internet Radio

  • Spotify

  • Amazon Prime Music

  • TIDAL

  • Deezer

  • Napster

It’s part of the HEOS group of products - HEOS is a multiroom music streaming platform, so the Melody X will appear as another player on the HEOS app alongside other HEOS products, such as the HEOS wireless speakers or Denon AV Receivers. Thanks to HEOS you can also access music files stored locally on your home network, so if you have a collection of music stored digitally, say some CDs you’ve ripped or if you’ve been “digitizing” your vinyl collection, you will be able to browse and playback nice and easily.

It also supports the three major voice control agents, so you can use Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa or Apple’s Siri to control the unit, functionality of course varies depends on which agent you use, but basics such as volume, play/pause etc should work across all three.

There’s four channels of audio amplification, meaning you can have two different pairs of speakers, with independent volume control, being driven by the Melody X, or you can connect just a single pair of speakers and have double the output power vs connecting two pairs.

The new Melody X, or M-CR612, offers a superb selection of features and options and really makes it a great all-rounder. It looks rather smart too.
